Chapter 3
We watched as the Spaniards entered Cajamarca. We easily had them out numbered. Yet some of them were riding on great big beasts, that we had never seen before. The beast brought fear into some of our men's eyes. We sat and waited for the Spaniards to make a move, weather a friendly gesture or an attack on our men.
Our King Atahuallpa sent a messenger over to the Spaniards early the next morning, he brought a message back from them, it went something like this "Tell your lord to come when and how he pleases, and that, in what way soever he may come I will receive him as a friend and a brother. I pray that he may come quickly, for i desire to see him. No harm nor insult will befall him." The king considered this message for a while and decided to accept the invitation to meet with the Spaniards Governor, but not without some protection. The king had many great numbers of men line up in formations around him, thinking that the Spaniards would see the number of men and would not attack.
Around noon we began filling out of our camp, our numbers were many and we covered a large portion of the hill. We headed towards Cajamarca in a great procession surrounding our king Atahuallpa. Late into the afternoon we filed into the plaza, again with our king in the center high on his throne.
Once we were all in a funny looking man, balding on top [there's nothing wrong with that though, right Mr Ross?] and wearing an ugly brown fabric. He approached our king, carrying a funny looking object and offered it to him. Atahuallpa took the object and examined it for a second, then the funny looking man reached out towards the object in Atahuallpas hands. This alarmed our King, and he at once swatted away the mans hand and tossed the object aside. It had no importance to him. The man returned to were he came from, looking flustered or upset.
Then, all at once there were loud sounds coming from all around us, and Spaniards cam from around corners, where they were hidden from our view. Each one of them had some sort of stick they carried, these sticks were creating the loud banging noises. There were also men riding on the backs of the great beasts we saw them ride in on. The air was filled with loud noises. Every where around us we were being attacked. The Spaniards attacked relentlessly, our men were quickly falling in numbers. Some tried to escape out of the plaza. But they were only pursued by men on the backs of the great beasts. those who remained in the plaza continued to protect their king. Some filled in for the fallen throne bearers and others leaped into human piles, trying to protect those who would be heirs to the throne, hoping that a human barrier would protect them.
When the Spaniards chased down our escaping men they alarmed some of our men back at the camp, these men the abandoned us and the camp. At the same time the Spaniards on the backs of the great beasts rushed towards the throne and tipped it over. Causing our King Atahuallpa to be trapped. This was the way the battle ended, with our king captured by the Spaniards and our surviving men trying to escape from the loud sticks and the great beasts.
