One day, you wake up in hospital. In the nearby bed lies a world famous violinist who is connected to you with various tubes and machines.
To your horror, you discover that you have been kidnapped by the Music Appreciation Society. Aware of the maestro’s impending death, they hooked you up to the violinist.
If you stay in the hospital bed, connected to the violinist, he will be totally cured in nine months. You are unlikely to suffer harm. No one else can save him. Do you have an obligation to stay connected?

Well I think that if I was paid and i didnt have to pay hospitol bills I would do that for him [Corbin Bleu].
I wouldnt mind sitting in a hospitol bed for nine months as long as I have a T.V. [with good channels], a cell phone, good food and money. Also, if Corbin was awake the whole time i would definitly do it. Actually if I was in the hospitol saving Corbin Bleu, and he was concious for 9 months, I would MOST DEFINITLY save him. [maybe even with out pay]
On the other hand, its different when your saving someone that you dont know at all. I would like to think that if someone was dependent on me for 9 months and I didnt even know them that they would offer me pay. Now that I think about it, I would stay in that bed for 9 months to save a stranger because, who knows, maybe they could turn out to be some great scientist that invented a car that can sufficeintly run on salt water. And to think, they would not have been able to invent that had you decided to put yourself before others. Even if it was someone I was inclined to dislike, I would still be inclined to save their life. You just cant mess with peoples lives like that, you cant take away from them something as precious as that. So what if it doesnt make you comfortable or happy, is that really what you are focused on? You cant lend nine months of your life to save a lifetime of someone elses life?
So in the end, I believe that no matter who is in the bed next to you, you should save their life, you never know what will happen. [being paid wouldnt hurt though]

Alexis,
I'm looking for more depth here. Consider: what if it wasn't someone famous, or someone you admired. What if it were a total stranger? Is there a difference? Is one case more 'right' than another? What if - to take the opposite stance - it were actually someone who you didn't like. Or someone who had wronged you in the past? What would you do? What is the difference?

What if it were you who needed a stranger to save your life, under similar circumstances? What would you hope they would do?

much love,
mr. ross
